Known as ‘the snail’, the 870 metres2 of the shared wooden deck is made from African hardwood, Azobe. This type of wood has the same lifespan as steel and is resistant to rotting and woodworms. The complete timber pier with changing rooms and toilets is intended to be a long term public space which is accessible to all. The circular timber facade provides shelter from the sea wind for visitors for all seasons.
