Wood Model Making

Christian Kerez, a swiss architect, describes architecture as an “adventure” and an “intellectual work” and follows a design process in which he makes use of models made of wood to study and develop space and structure. Many of his famous buildings are originally modelled in wood and are photographed in his book, Uncertain Certainty

By using wood as a construction material for scaled models, the nature of the building structure is restrained by the characteristics of timber. Model making can be performed with a large array of material types, but to utilize timber is to further understand the material that is being directly applied in the realized structure.
