The Wooden House by LVPH Architectes explores a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Alpine house through a simple timber construction system. Located in Treyvaux, Switzerland, the project uses a compact form and pitched roof to respond to the local rural character while creating a home that is closely connected to its surroundings.
The house is built around a load-bearing timber structure with untreated larch cladding, allowing the material itself to define the character of the building. Inside, exposed timber surfaces continue throughout the spaces, creating a consistent relationship between structure, interior atmosphere, and exterior expression. Large openings and double-height spaces bring natural light deep into the house while framing views of the surrounding landscape.
What makes the project particularly interesting is the way it achieves its identity through simplicity rather than formal complexity. The clear structural system, careful detailing, and continuity of timber create a home that feels rooted in its context while demonstrating how traditional building principles can be reinterpreted through contemporary timber construction.
